The island of Bali, whose majority population is Hindu, carries out daily life, especially in terms of worship, based on the meaning and philosophy of Hinduism which originates from the sacred book Veda. To represent this meaning and philosophy, Hindus in Bali often use symbols in the form of shapes and colors as a means. One of the cultural and ceremonial facilities that is often found in both sacred and profane contexts is the poleng cloth. Poleng cloth is a traditional Balinese cloth with a checkered shape that almost resembles a chessboard motif. Translating poleng cloth with classic motifs into a fashion work requires a lot of knowledge about poleng cloth. By using the basic theory of meaning and semantic theory, an attempt is made to obtain the views of fashion designers regarding the meaning and thinking concepts in understanding poleng cloth. It is known that poleng cloth is a traditional Balinese cloth that is often encountered by tourists when visiting Bali. Apart from being used as decoration material for events with a Balinese feel, poleng cloth is also actually a cloth used in Hindu religious ceremony rituals. It has a deep meaning and philosophy related to human life, therefore designers raise poleng cloth not only with the aim of introducing Balinese literature, but also to give meaningful meaning to their work.
