Abstract

The fashion industry significantly impacts the environment, from raw material usage to production processes and waste generation. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the fashion industry is responsible for about 10% of global carbon emissions and 20% of global water waste. This has led to increased awareness about sustainability within the industry. Consumers are now not only looking for aesthetically pleasing products but also for eco-friendly options. One material that has gained attention for its sustainability is wood. Despite being a natural material, wood offers unique aesthetic qualities with its varied grain patterns and natural colors. Although wood has been used in fashion design, its application in heel design is still limited. Wood presents potential as a primary material in fashion design, especially for heels, offering both environmental benefits and a distinctive look. However, the challenge lies in integrating wood into designs that offer the same comfort, flexibility, and durability as traditional materials like leather and plastic. This study aims to explore the potential of wood in sustainable heel design, addressing the need for more environmentally friendly fashion products. Through this research, innovative solutions combining sustainability and aesthetics will be examined, with a focus on enhancing the comfort and practicality of wood-based designs. The study contributes to promoting eco-friendly materials in fashion and offers insights into innovative design solutions that align with the growing demand for sustainable fashion
